Sara Carlyle

Sara Carlyle’s work is focussed on intimate portraits. Interested in finding ways to capture private moments with people she works across photography, video and print. By using moving image work to create portraits that focus on time and duration, she highlights the role of the camera and how the subject interacts with it.

A camcorder records the moments in between the poses. Through this method Sara examines moments in time (video footage) and interruptions of time (film stills/snapshots). Herewith, observing people through a lens and looking past the pose. Drawn to the uncomfortable, raw moments of having your photograph taken: twitches, yawns, scratches, blinking and shifting. The awkwardness of a photo shoot, are brought to the forefront of her work. Observing human behaviour through photography and film.
