Hotting up at the NINES

Things are getting busy in our little corner of Copeland Park and there is a definite buzz in the air. We’re fresh from our epic month long Balamii broadcast residency and getting ready to dive into the next jam-packed week. Not only is Peckham Free Film Festival coming to the NINES but it’s also the launch of the much anticipated first Peckham Festival.
Here at the NINES we’re pretty excited to be hosting and curating an entire weekend of fun and shenanigans for the Festival. It all kicks off with the official festival launch on the Thursday night. Our good friends and neighbours Electric Pedals will rolling out their enormous pedal powered cinema for a screening of the iconic Blues Brothers. Bring a blanket and get comfy, alternatively you can don your best spandex and get peddling! We’ll be continuing the party post-screening back at the NINES with live music from Guido Spannocchi who will be raising the roof with his blues cats. Expect juleps and jiving!

If you are looking for late night fun on Friday, local dance aficionados Rotations will be in the house bringing their mix of house and disco with residents Marcy & DJ Eliot. You’ve got just enough time to recover from your hangover as Saturday night sees BBC Radio 6 recommended band Gillbanks headline in our Moon Saloon. As ever our top-notch food and drinks menu will be available throughout the day.

And incase that wasn’t enough to keep you moving and shaking, we’ve programmed an entire day of music for our NINES bandstand takeover. Expect emerging and established musical talent from the four corners of the world via Peckham and Nunhead. We are thrilled to be hosting the mesmerising Kadialy Kouyate who will be singing songs from his native Senegal accompanying himself on his kora (he’s collaborated with Mumford & Sons and Baaba Maal to name a few!). Balkan and Arabic inspired super band Tashkezar will be getting the crowds going with their driving beats and infectious strings and brass. Our favourite community choir Owl Parliament will be delivering everything from Fleetwood Mac to Bulgarian wedding songs and everywhere between. There will be original funk and soul from Peckham’s honey-voiced Winnie & The Rockettes – a group definitely set for big things – and to bring the day to a raucous and irreverent close The Relatives and their motley crew will be turning everyday London Life into folk legend.

Summer is no way near over.

We’re looking forward to seeing you!
