Meet Jide, our Volunteer Manager.

Meet Jide: our Volunteer Manager!
We took a few minutes to find out a bit more about him…

? Who are you / What do you do?
I’m a British Nigerian. I’m a scientist by day and DJ by night. For the past 18 years I’ve worked in and around events organising club nights, fashion shows and art exhibitions. As a DJ I’ve played alongside Goldie, Andy C & Grooverider in clubs like Fabric and Heaven and have DJ’ed as far as Brazil and Japan
I also write and make music & film. I love art, music and talks, occasionally appear on TV. I’m constantly on my feet, the world is my office. Its hard to pin me down to one place unless they are serving amazing food

? What do you want to bring to Peckham Festival 2018?
I’m a real people person and a great talent spotter. Communities are of great importance to me and being a part of such a community festival is extremely fulfilling and fun.
I have a wealth of experience of events, the arts and working with people of all walks of life as well as being very analytical from my science side to make the festival the best that it can be as well as a whole lot of fun which is super important

? What do you think is your “Peckham Gem”?
Do I have to pick only one? There are so many!!! The South London Gallery – its truly representative of the surrounding community in its ethos. Even when featuring international artists its around themes that are of importance to the surrounding Neighbourhood. Their programs like Art Assassins nurture the young artistic talent from the surrounding area. Its my favourite gallery. The Place is Here exhibition they held last year was mind blowing and also gave an insight into the long history the space has been pushing artists of a BAME background.

I also love food so much!!! Artusi has some of the best Italian food I’ve had in London. Yadas has the most amazing Kurdish food, is super cheap and BYOB, sitting on their outdoor terrace is perfect on a summers evening. I love absolutely love suya too – if you stand outside Suya Express long enough you’ll see me in there ordering a beef suya extra spicy of course
