Catherine Macleod

Catherine makes clay figures, that fit perfectly into an interior space. Many are shelf sitting with binoculars, large feet, and are peering out into the world.

An interest in anatomy and life drawing led Catherine to building figures out of clay, while on her degree course. This has continued to interest her as she sometimes exaggerates proportions, making standing figures with large feet and long legs. Looking through binoculars, the “searchers” as they have been called, could be looking out for a person, a direction, a possibility, or a chink of an opportunity. The figures are hand built out of crank clay, the soles of the feet are decorated with red decals and are fired high to stoneware with sparkly lithium glazes.
