Claudette Forbes

Claudette is a Peckham-based ceramicist. She produces tableware as well as sculptural pieces.

Born and raised in inner-city Bristol, the child of first-generation Jamaican immigrants, as a teenager, the race riots in St Pauls in the early 1980s made a lasting impression on her.

These personal experiences are reflected in her work, where she explores the complex issues surrounding inner-city areas and their communities.

She often gathers her ideas by observing scenes and people in her neighbourhood. Decorated with her twist on the traditional willow pattern, depicting scenes from Peckham, her work has received many plaudits and has been exhibited widely.
