Kyra Mihailovic

Kyra’s work in high-fired stoneware and porcelain explores form, colour and pattern to create relatively small-scale work with a strong visual impact that may provoke pleasure when viewed and used. Texture, weight, balance, scale, and shape are all important components of her work, as is durability.

After throwing and turning her ceramics on the wheel, Kyra paints each piece – ceramics and jewellery – by hand in ceramic colours and oxides before biscuit firing; all of her ceramics are glazed internally in a second firing, with most pieces having their exteriors left unglazed.

Ideas and influences on Kyra’s work include domestic and architectural historical artefacts, (often stimulated by travel and museum visits), everyday sensory experience, and natural forms.
