Malathie De Silva
Malathie de Silva (Mali) is a Sri Lankan buddhist sculptor. In 2001, she settled in Peckham and found a studio in the Bussey Building.
Malathie carves by hand in wood and stone as well as modelling in ceramic and mixed media. Her style is buddhist surrealist/expressionist and looks to capture forms of the natural world that are rapidly disappearing. She teaches woodcarving and ceramic modelling at Thomas Calton Centre, Peckham. Her students’ work has been exhibited at Morley Gallery and the V&A.
