Featured Artist: Caroline Wright
Hey Caroline. Where is your studio? How long have you had your studio here? And if you share it, what do your studio mates do and how else does working alongside other artists help you?
My studio is in my house in Nunhead, where I have lived for 23 years, prior to that I lived in Chadwick Road, Peckham from 1985 to 1992. Having my studio at home has worked very well for me with two small children at the time of moving from one house to another. It enabled me to work on a daily basis, even for as little as an hour a day each evening, or early morning. I have a lot more time to paint now.
Tell us about your practice!
I work in series, each painting series having an organic feel; a build up, a peak and an end. I work on collages continuously, particularly when a paintings series comes to an end. Collage allows me to make decisions quickly and include a certain playfulness and richness of texture.
How do you feel about being part of the first Peckham-wide open studios as part of Peckham Festival?
Instead of opening up my home I shall be exhibiting at Queens Cafe (2 King’s Grove SE15 2NB) so you can enjoy my work over a coffee and cake.
Where can people find your work online and get in touch?
See Caroline’s work throughout the festival at Queens Cafe (2 King’s Grove, London SE15 2NB) just off the Queens Road and seconds away from Queens Road station. Offering a wide range of mouth watering delicacies, tasteful coffees and choice wines, its a beautiful place to visit whether it be to work, rest or simply socialise
