Head honcho at the Peckham Soul Label and resident disc jockey at the mighty “South London Soul Train’s” Northern Soul room, DJ Craig Jamieson has taken the scenic route in getting to SE15.
Starting the seminal beat happening “Modern Lovers” in Edinburgh when relocating there to study History and film studies in 2003, the club’s unique retro playlist quickly gained a reputation beyond its home in the Scottish capital. Club residencies followed in Glasgow, London and Brighton, and from 2005 the club went Trans-European, staging regular events in Gothenburg, Stockholm, Copenhagen, Oslo, Malmo and Trondheim, culminating in a range of DJ appearances at some of Europe’s most respected festivals.
Relocating to Peckham in 2014, his recent focus has been on establishing Peckham Soul, a design label celebrating the cultural vibrancy, diversity and history of South East London. Still busy behind the decks, Craig has set up the “Blues Party” and “Togetherness” events which take place across South East London, and continues to play his DJ part in “Soul Train”, quite possibly the biggest retro soul event taking place in the world today.
For the Peckham Festival DJ Set, expect some classic vinyl digging from the leviathan that’s Craig’s collection. Ol’ skool funk, classic Motown and Northern Soul, a splash of reggae and ska, and of course, a big hunk of Peckham Soul.
